Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

Who we are and what we do.

Home

The Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park was set up in 1990. It is a Charity. It has a constitution whose main objectives are to encourage greater use of this inner urban green space as a sanctuary for people and a place of biodiversity. Every year the Friends organise public events to encourage people to enjoy the park: Open Day, International Dawn Chorus Day, Open House Day, Armistice Day service and the launch of community projects. Throughout the year there are opportunities to get involved with the biodiversity work through nature conservation activities. In partnership with the East London History Society, the Friends organise sessions for recording the memorials themselves and research family history inquiries associated with the stones. There are all sorts of ways of getting involved or just showing your support, by becoming a member.

Further details on the friends will be shown as we update the site including more details on our history.

The friends currently employ one full time member of staff. In the park we are based in an office in the Soanes Centre.

Over the year we have 2600 practical volunteers undertaking nature conservation projects and 100s of volunteers per year helping with monument recording.

Part of our work entails fulfilling a Service Level Agreement for park maintenance and a litter contract for the park.

We apply for and use grants to improve the park for biodiversity, nature conservation and the public.
